Noah Craft...Easy and Tasty

The 2 year olds have been learning about Noah for the past few weeks. Tonight we finished up our lessons with this craft. This is a simple paper plate craft. Each ark uses 2 plates (the cheap kind). I cut one plate into an ark shape as you can see in the picture. I painted it brown. You could let older kids do this part but I chose to do this ahead of time. I then stapled it around the edges to another white plate. This formed a pocket. During class I had the kids add colored paper to make a rainbow along the rounded edge. We then added a couple die cut animals and a bag of animal cookies. It's easy, cute, and a tasty take home!

While we are talking about Noah I wanted to share this cute song that was shared with me by my friend Leah.

It's sung to the tune of "The Farmer in the Dell"

Saw, Saw, Saw,
Pound, Pound, Pound,
Build An Ark With Noah
So We Won't Drown (or you could say.....That Won't Fall Down)

I have play tools that I let the kids hold but you could also just pretend to saw and pound a hammer. They really like this song and catch on to it quickly.

Jesus Calms the Storm

VBS- "By the Sea" lesson- Jesus Calms the Storm

2 year old center- sorting boats by color

Jesus calms the storm craft. Use a piece of construction paper and fold the top down a few iches. Under the flap glue storm cloud and lightening.  Glue water and boat along bottom of construction paper.

Lower flap and glue sun and white cloud. When you raise flap..you have a stormy sea. When you lower the flap you have a calm sea.

Tune: "If You're Happy and You Know It"

Je-sus calmed the stormy sea.
Je-sus calmed the stormy sea.
Jesus spoke to the wind and said, "Peace be Still'
Je-sus calmed the stormy sea.

Our snacks to go along with the lesson were edible boats! We had apple boats with cheese sails and we also had banana boats with strawberry sails. These could be used with many lessons involving boats including Jonah, Paul being shipwrecked, Noah, apostles fishing, etc.

Nets Full of Fish

VBS- "By the Sea" lesson- Nets full of fish

snack- nets with fish made using waffle pretzels, hershey kisses, and goldfish. Place kiss on pretzel and melt the for a few minutes in the oven. take out and press fish into chocolate. That's it!! So simple and tasty! Found this idea on Pinterest!

easy center for 2 year olds. Match colors and shapes

Fish matching center. Found foam fish on oriental trading

also found this craft idea on Pinterest. Used pieces of a laundry bag for the net, mini die cut fish, and jumbo popsicle sticks.

Tune: "If You're Happy and You Know It"

The apostles caught a bunch of fish
The apostles caught a bunch of fish
Jesus said, "cast your nets on the other side."
The apostles caught a bunch of fish.

Jesus Calls the Apostles

VBS "By The Sea" Lesson- Jesus calls the apostles to be fishers of men!

snack-  fishing poles using pretzel rods, pull apart twizzlers, and gummy fish! 'Glued' the twizzler and fish with almond bark.

The 2 year olds counted the apostles. An upside egg carton works perfectly with there being 12 places to stick apostles on popsicle sticks! Also used the poster board with apostles while singing the apostles song and then used it in a matching center. Kids matched the smaller apostles with the one on the poster board.

Tune: "If You're Happy And You Know It"

One day Jesus called some fisherman.
One day Jesus called some fisherman.
He called "come follow me"
They left their nets and went,
One day Jesus called some fisherman.

To go along with our "by the sea" theme the kids counted sea shells in one center

They also went fishing in a pool filled with tissue paper and fish with paper clips attached. I hot glued a heavy duty magnet to the end of a string attached to a pole for them to fish with.

Jesus Walks on Water

Just recently had our VBS. The theme was "By the Sea". One of our lessons was Jesus walking on the water. Here are a few things we did in the 2 year old class.

Made a very simple paper plate craft using tissue paper, boat die cut, and Jesus clip art.

Ate blue jello with a teddy graham as Jesus. Was able to get the teddy graham to "walk on water" by "gluing" him to a pretzel stick with almond bark.

Tune: "If You're Happy And You Know It"

Je-sus walked upon the sea.
Je-sus walked upon the sea.
Peter tried to meet Him there,
but the waves were everywhere.
Je-sus walked upon the sea

Jonah and the big fish

Here is a super easy craft that I did with my preschool age kids. Cut a simple "big fish" shape out of construction paper. I would have used foam had I had any but I didn't so construction paper worked just fine. Print off a "Jonah" from the internet and stick Jonah on a craft stick. I glued a strip of construction paper to the back of the fish for the craft stick to slide behind but you wouldn't have to do that! Put a wiggle eye on and you're done!

Here is a cute song to use when teaching about Jonah (www.perpetualpreschool.com)
Tune: Are you sleeping?

Where is Jonah? Where is Jonah?
In a boat. In a boat.
What is Jonah doing? What is Jonah Doing?
Running from God. Running from God.

Where is Jonah? Where is Jonah?
In a fish. In a fish.
What is Jonah doing? What is Jonah doing?
Praying to God. Praying to God.

Where is Jonah? Where is Jonah?
On a hill. On a hill.
What is Jonah doing? What is Jonah doing?
Learning to love. Learning to love.

Where is Jonah? Where is Jonah?
Nineveh. Nineveh.
What is Jonah doing? What is Jonah doing?
Sharing God's love. Sharing God's love.

Wise and Foolish Builders

Today's lesson in Kindergarten was about the Wise and Foolish builders. The kids have been singing "The Wise Man Built His House on The Rock" since they were babies so this story was familiar to most of them. We talked about what a parable is and the reason Jesus told parables.

We did this activity as we talked about why we should build our houses (lives) on a solid foundation (Jesus) and not on the sand! They loved this and thankfully it worked like it was supposed to. I did reinforce the house on the rock by taping the popsicle stick to the bottom of the pan before stacking up the rocks! We couldn't have that house falling too! The last time I tried this some of the rocks wouldn't stay put and the house leaned a little! I wanted it to stand firm this time.

Before the storm came!

The rains came down!

The house on the rock stood firm!

A very simple craft. Find pictures of houses and have the kids glue one on a rock and the other sideways on some sand!

Another wise and foolish builders song! Found this song here I printed off some coloring pages to use as visuals to go along with the song. I put the words on the back of each picture

Tune: This Old Man
This wise man, he built well
he built well up on a rock

When the rains came down
And the Floods came up
This man's house stood firm and strong!

Foolish man, he built wrong
he built wrong up on the sand

When the rains came down
And the Floods came up
This man's house came tumbling down!

Noah Obeyed God

The 2 year olds have been learning about Noah the past couple of weeks. Their first lesson was "Noah Obeyed God". We talked about how Noah built the ark because God told him to. Even though it had never rained before and some people laughed at Noah he still obeyed God. We brought in a little people ark to use while telling the lesson. The kids got to play with this after the lesson. We also gave each child a wooden block and a hammer so they could help build an ark like Noah. Here are a couple songs we used to go along with this lesson. They were both found here on this site www.ministry-to-children.com This site has other great Noah songs too!

Noah's Tools
To the tune of "The Wheels on the Bus".

Found clip art to use to make a visual to go along with the song. Would also be cute to bring in a toy hammer, screw driver, and saw to use while singing!

Noah makes the hammer go boom boom boom
Boom boom boom, boom boom boom.
Noah makes the hammer go boom boom boom
As he builds the ark

Noah makes the screwdriver turn turn turn
Turn turn turn, Turn turn turn
Noah makes the screwdriver turn turn turn
As he builds the ark

Noah makes the saw go back and forth
Back and forth, back and forth
Noah makes the saw go back and forth
As he builds the ark

The other song we used was

Noah had some Tools
To the tune of "Farmer in the Dell".

Noah had some tools Noah had some tools
He built the ark with his tools
Like God told him to

He worked really hard He worked really hard
To build the ark with his tools
Like God told him to

He followed God's plan He followed God's plan
And built the ark with his tools
Like God told him to

My friend Arika had these for the kids to take home after the lesson. They went perfectly with the lesson and the kids loved them! They came from Oriental Trading. She printed off labels telling about the lesson and stuck them on the hammers.

Melody Mondays - The Gloryland Express

This is one of Sue Crabtree's song ideas. We enlarged the train on bright colored paper, laminated it and added magnetic strips on the back of each car. My kids enjoy being the song assistant on Sunday's - this is the job that helps me place the magnets for the song on the board as we sing. It is easy to do with any song.

This song is one of our favorites. I think it has an orginial tune but we sing it to the "Something in My Pocket" tune.

The Gloryland Express

I'm on my way to heaven on the Gloryland Express.

The sides of the boxcar spells J-E-S-U-S.

When the yardman yells, "Heaven," I'll surely shout, "Yes!"

I'm on my way to heaven on the Gloryland Express.

"Toot! Toot!"

Melody Monday: Jonathan and David Friendship Song

Here is a song we used in teaching the friendship between Jonathan and David. The tune is to "Are You Sleeping" but I have no idea where I found it. I am still trying to look for it.

We would have the students get in pairs. One would pretend to be Jonathan and the other one, David. They would take turns acting the song out and then would switch parts. They really enjoyed this in class.

Melody Mondays-Resurrection

Jesus Lives Again
(tune: "The Farmer in the Dell")

Jesus lives again.
Jesus lives again.
Alive and well,
oh, go and tell,
Jesus lives again!

Jesus helps His friends.
Jesus helps His friends.
Toss your net
and fish you'll get.
Jesus helps His friends.

Jesus cares for friends.
Jesus cares for friends.
He cooked some fish
oh, tasty dish.
Jesus cares for friends.

song found in "Bible Songs & Action Rhymes" idea book

When teaching the Resurrection lesson to the 2 year olds we didn't go into Jesus cooking fish for his disciples on the beach after the resurrection. Because of this I only used the first verse of this song.

Five Loaves and Two Fishes-Song

Here is another very cute song to use when teaching "Jesus Feeds 5000"

I found this song at ebibleteacher.com You can also link to this site by clicking on the link to the side of the blog. My link will take you directly to the songs page! There are LOTS of great songs here.

Tune: Ten Little Indians
lyrics written by Sharon Broome

One little boy shared his lunch
One little boy shared his lunch
One little boy shared his lunch
And Jesus fed five thousand.

Five little loaves and two little fishes
Five little loaves and two little fishes
Five little loaves and two little fishes
Jesus fed five thousand.

Took the food, prayed, and broke it
Took the food, prayed, and broke it
Took the food, prayed, and broke it
Then passed it to the apostles.

Each one ate until he was full
Each one ate until he was full
Each one ate until he was full
And there were still leftovers.

Twelve basketfuls were leftover
Twelve basketfuls were leftover
Twelve basketfuls were leftover
After each had eaten.

I found a picture to go along with each verse and printed the words on the back and made it into a flip chart song!

Jesus Feeds a Crowd

Here is a cute song to use with a lesson on Jesus feeding the 5000. This song was found in the book "Bible Songs and Action Rhymes" The book suggest using a lunch box when singing this song! I did use this song with my 2 year olds and even though it's a little long they liked it because of the lunchbox. It kept them interested!

(Tune: "Hush, Little Baby")

Five Little loaves and two little fish,
one small boy and a great big wish
to hear Jesus from a hillside rock.
He followed Jesus with his lunch box.

A large crowd of people came that day
to hear Jesus and learn his ways.
The crowd grew hungry and needed fed.
The only food was fish and bread.

To Jesus this boy gave his lunch.
Just a little, but soon was much.
Jesus prayed and blessed the bread;
then 5000 folks were fed.

Jesus is God's special one.
He's God's one and only Son.
He can do may wonderful things!
He's the reason that we sing!

The book suggest doing this while singing!
As you sing the first verse, place the bread (or crackers) and 2 fish (toy or paper) into the lunch box and close the lid. At the end of the second verse, open the lunch box and show fish and bread. On the third verse, act as though you're passing out the lunch to each child.

Talk with children about how we can share what we have with God and with others.

Jesus Stops a Storm

This song is sung to the tune: "All through the Night". It's a great song to sing with little kids and let them make thunder. I used aluminum pans and gave the children wooden spoons so they could make thunder at the appropriate part of the song. They stopped when we sang "Peace be Still"! You can also bring in flashlights and let some of the kids make lightening. This song came from the idea book "Bible Songs & Action Rhymes"

Kim made the song using pictures to stand for certain words! It helps the kids learn the words to the songs faster and it gives them something to look at while you sing which helps keep their attention..especially little ones like the 2,s and 3,s! Becky and I do this with lots of our songs in the kindergarten class!

Tune: All Through the Night
Jesus in the boat is sleeping.
peace, be still.
Though a storm winds starts a sweeping, peace, be still.
Thunder, lightening, waves start pounding.
Disciples cry, "Jesus we're drowning!"
Jesus wakes and calms the storm with,
"Peace, be still."

Melody Mondays - Naaman

My kids enjoyed singing and pretending to dip in the Jordan River as we learned about Naaman. I found this song from Mission Arlington.

Naaman Gets Well
(Tune: Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush)

Seven baths did Naaman take, Naaman take, Naaman take.
Seven baths did Naaman take - count them all.

Seven baths made Naaman well, Naaman well, Naaman well.
Seven baths made Naaman well - count them all.

We would count to seven after the part in the song that says, "count them all." We would "dip" down each time we would say a number.

Israel's First Kings

I love to use children's drawings to decorate my classroom or to make flipcharts to review stories. Recently I helped the children draw pictures of Israel's First Kings. We use these to review these men as we sing the song"Israel's First Kings." I thought they did a great job!

Melody Mondays: A Triumphant Entry

Today in the Kindergarten class our lesson was on Jesus' Triumphant Entry into Jerusalem. I made this song for us to sing after the lesson. I did not write the song but can't think at the moment what bible class book it came from. After we finished the lesson I let the kids act out the story. They absolutely loved this!! We used palm branches that came from Oriental trading (at least I think that's where Becky got them.) They were made of foam which made them sturdy enough for the kids to wave. You could just make them from construction paper too and add a popsicle stick to the back as a stem. I brought in a stick horse which became our donkey for the lesson.

Song- "Oh Come and Sing Along" (tune: The Farmer in the Dell)
Oh come and sing along.
Oh come and sing along.
We'll wave some palms and sing some songs
Oh come and sing along

The boys will sing along.
The boys will sing along.
They'll wave their palms and sing some songs
The boys will sing along.

The girls will sing along.
The girls will sing along.
They'll wave their palms and sing some songs
The girls will sing along

We'll lay our branches down.
We'll lay our branches down
We'll lay our coats and branches down
As Jesus rides to town.

Our palm branch and "donkey". It would also be good to bring in some coats or robes and lay them down on the ground for "Jesus" to ride over. I meant to do this and just forgot to grab them before I left.
My class acting out the lesson.

Melody Monday: Methuselah

One of my Bible class kids' favorite songs is "The Oldest Man - His Name Was Methuselah". It's sung to the tune of "The Old Gray Mare."

The oldest man - his name was Methuselah, name was Methuselah, name was Methuselah.
The oldest man - his name was Methuselah.
He lived a long, long time.

Me - thu - se - lah was 900 and 69, 900 and 69, 900 and 69.
Me - thu - se - lah was 900 and 69.
He lived a long, long time.

As we learn from Genesis, there are several character with difficult names. My students seem to learn better when I put the facts in a song. This is one of them.

Melody Mondays - 4 Friends Song

MAN LET DOWN THROUGH THE ROOF
(Nothing But the Blood)

Jesus taught the people in the house
Was so full you couldn’t move

Friends of the lame man helped him out
Put him in through the roof

Yes, Jesus forgave his sins,
Yes, Jesus mad him walk,
Yes, Jesus forgave his sins
All through the power of God
This is another song by friend, Kim Cook. I hope your students enjoy them as much as mine do.

Melody Mondays - Sons of Jacob Song

Sons of Jacob
(to the tune of "Ten Little Indians")

Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah,
Issachar, Zebulun, Dan and Naphtali,
Gad and Asher, Joseph, Benjamin - These are the sons of Jacob.

The lyrics to this song were improvised by Kim Dailey - treat lyrics as public domain.

In the 3 year old class we are going to be learning about Joseph. Our first lesson is how Jacob had 12 sons. We will use this song all quarter to remind us how many sons Jacob had and their names. This was taken from ebibleteacher.
