Creation Blocks

I did not make these, but have wanted to!!! So, when I saw them made, I took a picture of them to share with you because who knows when I will have them made!  One reason I love these is because you can do so many things with them!  Save the square boxes of Kleenexes and cover them with bulletin board paper.  Find numbers and pictures of the different things made on each day (as seen in the picture).  You can place one number on each box or 6 numbers on one box (one on each face).  Possibilities are numerous now!!!  If you use one number for each box, have your students place them in the correct order and review what was made on each day.  If you use one box for all 6 days, have each student roll the box and whatever number comes up have them tell you what was made on that day!

Creation Review/God Made People

This quarter the 2,s have been learning about creation. This week they learned about Day 6 and that God made people. They did animals last week! I found some review/center ideas online that I could just print off, cut out and use. No coloring was required (with a color printer) so it took very little time to prepare. I did laminate everything for durability.

Used this as a whole group review. I found this activity at www.christianpreschoolprintables.com It could be used with older kids by letting them match pictures to the correct day all by themselves. With the 2,s I let them hold the pictures and then as I talked about each day we looked to see who was holding the correct picture. They would then come add it to the correct spot. They like having something hold! They did very well with this activity and were so cute studying their pictures to see who was holding what I was describing!

For our snack/take home we made these marshmallow people. I put them in a bag labeled "Day 6- God Made People" The kids enjoyed eating the parts while making one to take home! I found this idea here! The internet really is a great resource for teaching the bible to children!!

Zaacheus

This is a great multiple use idea for the lesson of Zaacheus, again from the lady at Campbell Street.  You could use a toilet paper roll and half of a green paper plate to make the tree.  Find a picture that would represent Zaacheus.  You can choose to do this craft as a class and send it home.  You could also make a number of these for a center game to review the story of Zaacheus.  Write the questions on the trees and answers on Zaacheus.  The kids would love playing this game!

Trash-Filled Thursdays - Square Kleenex Box

A square Kleenex box was used to help with this review activity. We needed two for this one. Each is covered with bulletin board paper and, then, covered with clear contact paper. Notice we did leave the opening open so we could place items down into the box. We found pictures to represent Elijah and Elisha. We colored them, laminated them and placed them on the boxes with tape. See the previous post to see how these boxes were used in our class.

Elijah and Elisha Review

Elijah and Elisha are tough to keep straight - even for adults. In the 4 year old class, they end their time there learning about these two men but there is still some confusion. So, for our new Kindergartners, we use this to help us ALL keep these two important men straight.

We use two square Kleenex boxes one for each man (see this post). Then we made a poster board for each man as well (see pictures below).

In each Kleenex box, we placed pictures that represented each story that was taught on each man. We would pull the picture out of Elijah's box and review the story. Then, we would place the picture on the Elijah board. We would do the same thing for Elisha.

To do a complete review, we would place all the pictures in one box and as we would take the pictures out, the students would tell us which man it belonged to and we would let them place it on the appropriate poster.

Later, it would be a center game for the students to play as they came into class.

How to Use Old Bible School Visuals

I found these old visual pictures while going through some Bible school materials. They were smaller in size but the color was still good. I decided to make a copy of each picture on the copy machine. I laminated each picture - the color and the black and white copy. Then I took the black and white laminated copies and cut parts I wanted to highlight or review. I put these pieces in a ziploc bag along with the color pictures.
When I used it in class, I gave each child a couple of the black and white pieces. I laid out the color pictures in front of them. Each child took a turn finding their item in the color pictures. When it was found, they placed the black and white picture over the color part. We talked about that part of the story to review.

This was a very quick and easy activity to make and a great quick way to review any lesson.

Trash-Filled Thursdays - Milk Carton Lids II

This is a great way to review memory verses with older students. Use your saved milk jug lids for this activity. On a poster board, write out the memory work you are wanting your students to learn, leaving blanks for missing words. Write the missing words, one on each milk jug lid. Laminate the poster board so you can use it for a long time. In your classroom, have the students place the milk jug lids with words in the correct blanks. Let them have you check it when they are done. You can make this as easy or as hard as you wish.

Four Corners

This is a very simple review game for 4 years old on up. My son (who is 5) plays it in his Bible class and then we play it at home! It is a great way to review ANY story!

1. Get 4 pieces of the same colored construction.
2. Choose 4 words from the story you are wanting to review. On slips of paper, write clues for each word (2-3) or just write the words on a slip of paper and make up the clues as you need them.
3. Write a word on each piece of paper - you might want to draw a picture to represent the word if you are working with prereaders.
4. Hang the pieces of paper on the four corners of your room.
5. Go over the words with your students.
6. Have the students choose a word to stand under for the first round.
7. Choose a slip of paper from #2. Call out the clue on the slip of paper or make a clue that fits the word on your paper.
8. The children who are standing under that word must come and sit down. If no one is under that word, choose another clue.
9. Once the students sit down, have the ones who are standing choose another word to stand under and repeat the process until one child is left and declared the winner.

You can use another color of paper for a different set of words you want to review. How simple and effective this game is!

From Worksheet to Game - Counting Games

These worksheets are found in the book Big Book of Kindergarten Puzzles and are so easy to turn into center games. Find the counting puzzles in the book. These puzzles take Bible stories and give the students things to count that relate to the story.

I chose the ones I wanted and enlarged the pictures on a copy machine as big as I wanted them. Some I had to cut and tape together and once I did that, I colored the pictures.

Glue the pictures to construction paper.

Laminate.

Place the boards on cookie sheets (this is not required).

Using magnetic numbers (you can find these on the 88 cent aisle at Wal-Mart), the students count the items and place the number beside the item they counted.

These games are so easy to make and help the students to review the Bible story as well their counting skills. You can review the Bible story with your students as you check the game with them.

Bible Word Game

Sandy made this game to go in her first grade classroom. She found the idea from Ideashop magazine and the ideas are many!!

Find a pattern (like the clown above) to use that you like.

Enlarge it to a poster size or large construction paper size.

Color it, if you desire.

Using a circle template (a milk lid works well) draw circles on the large pattern.

On different colored construction paper, draw circles as well.

At your computer, type words you want your students to review and remember.

You will want one word for each circle you made on your pattern.

From this point there are different ways you can do the game:

For younger children: Copy two copies of the words you typed. Glue one set to the pattern and one set to the construction paper circles. Laminate both for durability. Your students can play this game at a center where they match words. When you check it, you can review the words and what they mean with the students at that time.

For older children: You will want to keep the list of words you already made. Take the words from that list and scramble the words. You will have two lists - one of unscrambled words and one with scrambled words. Cut the scrambled word list and place a scrambled word in each circle. Cut the unscrambled words and place an unscrambled word in each construction paper circle. Laminate both for durability. Your students can play this game at a center where they will match the unscrambled words to the scrambled words. When you check it, you can review the words and what they mean with the students at that time.

Samson Review Game

To review the story of Samson, I found these beehives and copied them to yellow paper to save time coloring. I found little yellow bees from Carson Dellosa. I wrote questions from the story of Samson on the beehives (I was able to get 2 questions on a beehive.) and the answers on the bees. You could even write riddles on the beehives with the answers on the bees. As a whole group, you could pass out the bees to the children and, when you read the question, they look at their bees to find the answer. The child who has the right answer comes and tapes the bee to the question. You can also put this at a center for an individual or small group of children to answer the questions together.

David is now king and remembered the promise he made to Jonathan about taking
care of his family after Jonathan died. David discovered that Jonathan had a son who was crippled named Mephibosheth. David brought Mephibosheth to the palace and gave a huge feast in honor of him. He also gave Mephibosheth the land that belonged to him.

Activities:
Snack – give a feast for the kids – cheese and crackers, grapes and apples, etc.
Role-Play – take turns being David and Mephibosheth
Craft – Decorate a cup that would have been used at the feast
Memory Verse – Have the kids say the memory verse and give them a heart ring
when they say it.
Game – Play “Place the Crown on King David” again.

David is a Friend:
King Saul was very sad so David went to the palace to play for King Saul. While
he was there he met his best friend, Jonathan. Saul wanted to kill David because everyone liked David better than him. Jonathan tried to find out if Saul wanted to kill David and when he did he shot 3 arrows to tell David he had to run away. They promised to always be friends and to take care of each others’ family. Jonathan gave David gifts to show how much he loved David.

Activities:
Snack – pretzel sticks with mini marshmallows on the ends (arrows)

Role-Play – Let each take turns playing a harp like David would have
Craft – Make arrows and quivers. Cover Pringles’ cans with paper to make the
quivers. Using strips of brown paper, gray triangles and other strips of paper for the arrow feathers make arrows to place into the quivers.
Memory Verse – Make a large hopscotch grid with one or two words on each
square. Let the kids hop out the memory verse.
Game – Target Practice – Ask the kids a question and if they answer it correctly,
let them throw an “arrow” at the target.

Samuel goes looking for the new king God wants to anoint. He looks at all of Jesse’s sons until he finds David – who has a good heart. David is the one God wants to become king after Saul.

Activities:
Snacks – Crown cookies decorate with icing drops and Skittles
Role-Play I – Let them play like they are king with a crown sitting on
the throne.



Role Play II - Let them use binoculars (2 toilet paper rolls hot glued together) and look for the new king. (We took copies of 7 men with sad hearts on the back of them and one man with a happy heart on the back of him. We hid them all over the room. They would look for the men and when they found one they would check his heart to see if that was the one God wanted as the new king.)
Craft – decorate crowns
Memory Verse – act out the memory verse
Game – Place the Crown on King David – Have the kids answer questions. When they answer them correctly they can place the crown on David’s head. You can blindfold them if you want

Last week we shared 4 lessons of Nehemiah that we have used as VBS lessons as well as Bible school lessons. This week we want to share with you 4 lessons on David. Again, these were used as VBS lessons and then taken to the Bible classroom.

David is a Shepherd Boy

Talk about what David did as a shepherd and how he trusted God to deliver him from a lion, bear and Goliath.

We created a babbling brook in the room out of plastic blue tablecloths. It was a great place to eat our snacks as well as gather all the students together to read, sing or get ready to go home.

Activities:
Snack – shepherd bag with shepherd food (goldfish, pretzels, cheerios, etc); bread and cheese

Role-play – dress as a shepherd and collect the paper bag sheep from around the room; take them back to the sheep fold.
Craft – paper plate sheep – add cotton to the paper plate
Memory Verse - 1 Samuel 16:7b; Paper doll boy with memory verse
on the front. Opened it up and placed a heart sticker inside; Went over the memory verse
Game – Answered questions and bowled Goliath down

Gideon

Sometimes you can take a story and make a game with a modern twist to it. I needed a game to review the life of Gideon. I took the story of Gideon and his 300 men in Judges 7 as a kind of inspiration for this game. The men in this story used empty pitchers with torches inside to help defeat the Midianites. I found these lantern patterns in a teacher magazine and copied and colored them. I glued them to a poster board and wrote questions on the lantern. Then, I made flames with the answers on them. I had everything laminated for durability. When the students come to this center, they place the flame in the lantern to answer each question.

Don't Hesitate to Ask Part I

When you are different places don't hesitate to ask them for supplies for your classroom. Arby's is great to give your french fry holders. They have the best because they can stand up all on their own!!! So, make a game out of them!! We have a french fry die cut we use to make our french fries but you can make your own out of yellow construction paper or a yellow sponge. French Fry holders are great for sorting games. For this one, our students were putting the books of the Bible into the different divisions. Each book of the Bible was on a french fry. At the start of the center game, all the french fries were in the fry holder labeled "Books of the Bible." To play the game, the students place the fry in the correct holder.
You can also do "Kings of Judah vs Kings of Israel," "Judge or King," "Writers of the Bible," and even descriptions of Bible characters. It is endless what you can do!!

Which Pocket?

Sandy came up with this game to review ANY story. Find a kangaroo pattern and enlarge two of them on a piece of poster board. Make pockets out of construction paper and glue the edges to the kangaroos to make a pocket. Label one pocket "True" and another pocket "False."Write sentences that go along with the story you want to review. Make some of the sentences true and some false. Laminate everything!! Use an exacto knife to open the pockets up so you can place the sentences in the pockets. You are ready to play!! Have your students read the sentences and decide if they are "true" or "false." Hope you have a hopping good time reviewing this way!
